Founded back in 1923 Villareal play their home games at the 26,000 seat El Madrigal stadium in a small suburb of Castellon de la Plana. Their close proximity making them derby rivals ofof another top Spanish side Valencia. One of the most famous being in the semi-final of the 2003-04 UEFA Cup
Known as the 'Yellow Submarines' because of their all yellow outfit, Villareal are arguably the newest force in Spanish football. After reaching to the semi-finals of the aforementioned UEFA Cup in 2003-04 and then the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League in 2005-06 and then narrowly losing out to Arsenal on their first attempt, they proved themselves worthy contenders for honours both locally and internationall.
With Argeninian wizard Juan Roman Riquelme pulling the strings from midfield plus the sniper abilities of Uraguayan international Diego Forlan their strength has been improved with the addition of French world Cup Winner Robert Pires in the summer of 2006.
Even though they have yet to win
a major trophy, their wait seems to be coming close to an end.
At the moment their most influential player is Marcos Senna
born in Brazil but pledged allegiance to the Spanish national
team.
