Always among the favourites to win top honours in the Netherlands, Feyenoord of Rotterdam were founded on July 19, 1908 and play their home games at the very popular 50,000 seat Feijenoord Stadion which was built in 1937 and is located in the district with the same name which is in the southern part of Rotterdam.
Together with Ajax of Amsterdam and PSV Eindhoven, Feyenoord is generally regarded as one of the "big three" clubs in the Netherlands.


Although are two other professional football teams from Rotterdam that play in the Eredivisie, Sparta and Excelsior. There main rivalry is against Ajax the Classic game of the season mainly because it is between the two largest cities of the Netherlands, one of which identifies with artists and creativity (Amsterdam) and one with hard work and guts (Rotterdam).

Feyenoord have failed to finish outside of the top four over the last sixteen years however apart from the top three teams, the Eredivisie is not exactly one of the strongest leagues in Europe.

Some of the more famous names to play for them are the likes of Robin van Persie, Salomon Kalou and now in his second stint at the club Pierre Van Hooijdonk.
