The newest Canadian professional soccer team and the first ever team from north of the border to break into the MLS.
Playing their first ever game in 2007 the team failed to make it into the play-offs on the first effort but were a financial success after selling out every home game at there newly built BMO Stadium which seats 20,522 people.
Their first head coach was former scottish international Mo Johnston who at the beginning of 2008 became the clubs sporting director. This left the vacancy to be filled by John Carver.
The team has now blossomed as a force in the east with the acquisition of international players such as Frenchman and deadball specialist Laurent Robert, their leading scorer Englishman Danny Dichio, Ivory Coast international Olivier
Tébily and former Arsenal and Tottenham player Rohan Ricketts.
With the inception of the Concacaf Cup the Montreal Impact have become their biggest rivals even though they play in seperate leagues. Toronto FC bowed out at the first attempt of to the said Impact who also ousted Vancouver in the tri-team competition to represent Canada at the aforementioned Concacaf Cup.
This came as a major upset as Toronto were hot favourites to progress into the next round of the tournament.
